I need one. It’s like a more obscure, at least on this side of the pond, old beetle with better styling (IMO of course).

Yeah, I’ve always wanted an Imp, too. They were exported and I’ve come across a few for sale over here, but they’re always rusty and dripping Exxon Valdez levels of oil.

I was seriously wondering if there would be a profit in importing them to the US today. I’m part of a UK retro car club on fb and I see people picking these up for £200-800 regularly.

They definitely have their fans among people who like to make small cars go fast.

I’m not even much of a small car guy generally. I’d say they have a pretty broad appeal.
It’s like a miniature early 60s American car with an engine in the trunk that weighs peanuts. There’s a little something for everybody there.

I totally agree. And like the Mini, a surprisingly acceptable amount of room inside. I also love the Simca and NSU versions of almost the same car.

Also available with a fastback body, and a variety of different badges (Hillman Imp Californian, Singer Chamois and Sunbeam Stiletto). Here’s one I spotted last week at Shelsley Walsh:
Alternatively, you could get a Hillman Husky:
However, my favourites are the rally cars:
I like them because they’re different, and (badly) made in Scotland.

Do it! They're like mini-911s. Tons of them in club-level motorsport over here.

Hmmm. South Dakota eh. Suppose that would take quite a bit of trouble out of the whole process

It’s the importing part that scares me.

Easier than importing, so long as everything checks out alright.

Put a post up about it :) there's a few opponauts who have imported cars now. Will be able to walk you through it (although for me it's the added cost that puts me off :S)

Really? Hmmm. I should probably do that then. I didn’t know there was oppos who had. Further more, I figured anyone who had would charge bucko bucks for the info as thats what I’ve found so far.

Yeah plenty of people who can help :) I know Duurtlang has been on the exporting side of things before, sending an E30 estate over to the States, and Halkyardo has just imported a Triumph 2000 from New Zealand (I think NZ, maybe Oz).

I wonder what I could find in new zealand. The gf has family there that has already invited us to come stay for free minus airfare. Funny thing is I told her I’d be willing but I’m coming back with a car.
